Hey everyone! My old Intel i5 and GTX 1060 system unfortunately died, and I need to put together a new build quickly since I rely on my PC for work. I'm planning to head over to MicroCenter and ideally want something that'll last me 3 to 5 years. I'll be using Linux as my operating system.
Here's what I need this build to do:
- Light gaming (I haven't gamed much recently because of the old hardware)
- Heavy multitasking for work and personal hobbies
- Data analysis on larger datasets
- Some hobby coding and dev work
- Playing around with LLMs and running local AI models
Here's the current lineup I'm considering:
|Component|Model|Price|
|---|---|---|
|CPU + Motherboard + RAM|AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D + ASUS B650E-E TUF Gaming WiFi + G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000 (Bundle)|$629.97|
|GPU|XFX AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB|$599.99|
|Storage|Crucial P510 1TB NVMe Gen 5 SSD w/ Heatsink|$109.99|
|PSU|Corsair RM850e 850W Gold Fully Modular (ATX 3.1)|$114.99|
|Case|Montech XR Tempered Glass ATX Mid-Tower|$69.99|
|CPU Cooler|Thermalright Peerless Assassin 140|$59.99|
|Thermal Paste|Corsair XTM60 3g|$8.99|
|Cables|DisplayPort 12ft (x2)|$35.98|
|**Total**| |**$1,549.91**|
The total is a bit on the higher end, and I'd love to cut around $200 if possible. I'm considering switching to an RX 9060 XT for $369 but I'd prefer to invest in quality gear. I did rush this process a bit and wasn't super picky about cheaper components.
Thanks for your help!

Looks good overall! I'd consider the 9070 non-XT as it outperforms the 7900 in FSR4 and ray tracing, plus it's more efficient. Just a heads up—if you're diving into LLMs, Nvidia is generally the way to go. Have you thought about the 5060ti or even the 5070 for light gaming? Might be worth your time!

Thanks for the GPU suggestions! I read that about LLMs too, which is a bummer considering AMD has some larger VRAM options. The 5060ti seems to shave about $100 off my total, but I've seen mixed reviews. I'll definitely look into it!
