Hey everyone! I recently noticed that my mouse isn't allowing me to click on anything after I opened my computer yesterday. I can move the mouse around, but programs won't open. I tried restarting my PC, but that didn't help at all.
I've managed to find some temporary fixes, but nothing permanent. Interestingly, when I navigate using the keyboard and open the Command Prompt as an administrator, it works fine. However, I can only do that when the CMD prompt appears and I hover over it and it asks for confirmation.
I've already tried a bunch of things like restarting, powering down my PC, unplugging and plugging everything back in, getting a new mouse, removing all USB drivers from the Device Manager, and running some commands like SFC scan and DISM commands.
I also created a new user to see if the issue is user-related, but when I restart, it auto-logs into my main user where the issue persists. If I log out and back in, my mouse works again.
I would appreciate any suggestions for a permanent fix without continuously having to use the keyboard or logging out. I'm running Windows 11 on a new computer that's about 6 months old. Thanks for any help!

I have a hunch that this could be a startup issue since you mentioned the new user account didn’t fix it and you always get auto-logged into the main account. We need to figure out what might be causing the system to skip the user selection and if that’s linked to the click problem.
This might actually be a Windows update issue. I’ve been having the same problem! I’ve done everything you mentioned—switched ports, bought a new mouse, even tried it on another PC. My fix has been deleting the mouse driver every so often, but it feels like a temporary solution. I’m curious if anyone knows of a specific Windows 11 update that might have triggered this.
When you delete the mouse driver, does the issue come back when you restart your PC, or is it just random?
Have you tried using the mouse on another computer to see if that works? It's a good way to determine if the mouse itself is the problem or if it’s something with your PC.
I didn't think to try that, but I just did and my mouse works perfectly on another computer.

I really don’t get what might be causing this, and I hope to get a solution soon!
