I'm building my ultimate gaming PC and need advice on RAM options. I'm considering 4x24GB DDR5-8000, 2x48GB DDR5-6800, or 4x48GB DDR5-6800. I know I'm probably over-spec'ing but that's kind of the point. My main question is whether having 4 sticks of 24GB is better performance-wise than just using 2 sticks of 48GB. I'm not likely to use the 4x48GB configuration. For context, I'm using a 9950x3d CPU with an MSI x870e Godlike motherboard and a 9070xt GPU. I've already got the 9070xt and 2x48GB RAM, but I'm wondering about RAM performance in terms of sticks and speed without running into stability issues. Any thoughts?

Honestly, you won't need that much RAM for gaming. 192GB is overkill unless you're doing heavy multitasking or content creation. 96GB with high speed like 6000 MT/s would be more than sufficient for gaming tasks. Just focus on a good GPU and maybe save some cash for that instead!
Exactly! It's better to invest in a higher-end GPU than unnecessary RAM.
It's generally advised to go with 2 sticks over 4 for better performance and stability, especially with AMD systems. 4 sticks can face challenges running at high speeds like 8000 MT/s, and 2x48GB at DDR5-6800 will still be plenty for gaming. If you're going for a high-performance build, just stick to those 2x48GB sticks and you'll be fine!
Thanks! That’s what I was leaning towards. Stability is key.
Yeah, 2 sticks are definitely the way to go for balance and speed!
Don’t stress too much about the amount of RAM unless you have specific needs. For gaming, even 32GB is overkill right now. Stick to something stable like 2x48GB DDR5-6800. That'll keep your system running smoothly without the headache of potential issues from 4 sticks.
Solid advice! I’ll make sure to prioritize stability.
Totally agree, it’s all about enjoying the gaming experience!
While having high RAM speeds is great, for a gaming setup, 2 sticks of 48GB running at 6000 MT/s should meet all your needs. Just be cautious about going too high, as stability issues can arise with higher counts of RAM sticks. 2x48GB usually hits the sweet spot for performance in gaming.
Sounds good! I'll stick with the 2x48GB as you suggested.
Good advice! Keep it simple and effective.

Totally get your point. The GPU definitely matters way more for gaming!
