I'm planning to buy a new graphics card, the 5080, but I'm struggling to decide on a CPU. The two options I'm looking at are the Intel 14900K and the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D. I've heard mixed reviews about both, especially regarding issues with the 14900K and some problems with the 9950X3D. As I do quite a bit of 3D rendering for work, I need a CPU with more cores, but I also want to make sure it's good for gaming too. Which one would be the better choice? Thanks in advance!

If you’re primarily gaming, you might consider the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D instead. They're solid options that pair well with the 5080, and it seems they perform better in gaming scenarios than the other two CPUs.
Given that you’re purchasing the 5080 and want something powerful, I'd still push for going AMD with the 9950X3D. The 14900K is basically reaching the end of its life (EOL), and future upgrades won't be an option.
Right? Once they release Nova Lake, the LGA1851 socket won't be supported anymore.
Remember that Intel's microcode updates help, but they won’t completely fix the degradation issues. They might reduce it significantly, but it’s still a risk. The 9950X3D is definitely the way to go for a powerful, reliable setup!
That makes sense! I’m feeling more confident about choosing the 9950X3D.
I’d say go for the 9950X3D. It’s stable and performs exceptionally well, especially if you are into 3D rendering. The 14900K has had reliability issues that can’t be ignored. Trust me, you don't want a CPU that might kill itself after a few months!
Did they fix the issues with the 14900K, though?
Honestly, the 14900K is a risky bet. With no solid upgrade path on that platform and potential for degradation, I’d steer clear. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is known for being great in productivity and doesn't have the same issue. I’d highly recommend it!
Thanks for the input! I think I’m leaning towards the 9950X3D now.

Totally agree! If gaming is your main focus, those CPUs will give you a better experience.
