Do I Need a DisplayPort on My Motherboard for Gaming?

I'm looking at a motherboard that only has an HDMI 2.1 port and no DisplayPort, which surprised me because I thought DisplayPorts were standard for gaming. Is this common for motherboards, and will having only HDMI be a problem for gaming? I have a high-end GPU, the 4090, so should I be concerned?

It really depends on your monitor. If it's a modern one and the HDMI 2.1 port suits your needs, then you're set. Just make sure your GPU is doing the heavy lifting!

I have the AW3225QF too! It's a solid monitor, just make sure to take advantage of the GPU to get the best performance.

It's fairly common to see motherboards without DisplayPorts, especially if they're designed for users primarily using a dedicated GPU. Since you're using a 4090, just ignore the motherboard's video outputs and use the ones from your GPU – it'll handle gaming like a champ!

If you have a dedicated graphics card like the 4090, you'll want to connect your monitor to that instead of the motherboard. The ports on the motherboard are mainly for integrated graphics, which isn't ideal for gaming anyway. So, as long as you connect through the GPU, you'll be good to go!

If your 4090 is installed, you're all set. You won't need to use the motherboard's HDMI at all. Just connect your monitor to your graphics card and enjoy!

Good to know! I was confused about why motherboards sometimes lack DisplayPorts too. Thanks for clearing that up!
