Hey everyone! I'm gearing up for my first PC build and I'm having a tough time deciding on a motherboard. I've narrowed it down to three options:
- ASRock X870 Pro-A WiFi for €199
- ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS WIFI for €209
- MSI X870E GAMING PLUS WIFI for €239
I'll be using a Ryzen 9 7900X CPU, and I have G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 RAM, which came with an XMP profile. The ASRock motherboard specifically states it's compatible with both XMP and EXPO. I'm curious, do all boards typically support this? Out of the three options, which one do you recommend, and is it better to go for the cheaper one or spend a bit more?

I'd steer clear of the ASRock board because they've been reported to have issues with their recent 9000 series CPUs, including some that ended up damaged. You're going for the 7900X, which is part of the 7000 series. Since you're looking for a reliable build, I'd recommend the ASUS TUF B850-PLUS if you don’t need USB 4.0. As for XMP and EXPO, while XMP is just a profile to load, EXPO is designed to give you better settings for AMD, but most boards will figure it out themselves. Just remember that your 6400 RAM might need some tweaking to run optimally after enabling XMP!

Thanks for the insight! Just out of curiosity, why do you think the 7900X isn't ideal for gaming? I noticed it's priced around €313, with the 9900X being €66 more and the 9700X is a bit cheaper at €280. Given that the 7900X has 12 cores, it felt like a good option. I read that some BIOS updates have fixed earlier issues with the CPUs but I'd prefer not to take any unnecessary risks. Also, I've seen some complaints about ASUS's customer service; is that something I should be concerned about?
