Confused About Email Threats Linked to My Old Number?

I recently had a voluntary interview with a police officer regarding an unsettling situation. Apparently, someone has been sending threatening emails from an account that connects back to my old WhatsApp account, which has a photo of me. Also, the email is linked to my previous mobile number, and I know the person involved. This caught me completely off guard because I thought linking my number to a Gmail account required a verification text sent to that number. How could this happen? I'm not very tech-savvy, but I'm genuinely confused about how someone could manage this without my knowledge. I even asked the officer if they could trace the IP to find where it came from, but he said no. I would appreciate any advice or insights!

It's crucial to get a duty solicitor involved, even if you're just volunteering. They can help you understand your rights and advisable steps. You should also secure your accounts by changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. Make sure your private information on social media is protected as well. If the person sending the emails referenced your WhatsApp photo, it’s likely that they have your contact details, which points to someone you know rather than a random attacker. Also, remember that tracing an IP only gives approximate locations—not exact addresses without legal help.

Thank you for the advice! I'm already changing my passwords and strengthening my account security. The situation has left me quite anxious, and I just want to understand if they could have more of my information.
