Connecting Multiple USB-C SSDs to One USB-C Port: What’s the Best Solution?

I have a desktop with just one USB-C port, and I'm trying to connect two Sandisk 4TB SSDs for video editing. I bought a multiport USB-C hub a few months ago, but when I connect both SSDs, it keeps disconnecting, especially when I'm actively using them. I'm wondering if the hub is faulty or if it just isn't suitable for my needs. Also, I'm looking for recommendations on devices that would allow me to maximize the speed for my drives without issues.

It sounds like your hub might be the issue. Some cheaper hubs don't handle multiple drives well, especially under load. You might want to check reviews or consider upgrading to a more reliable brand.

Yeah, I’ve had similar experiences with those cheap hubs. Maybe it’s time to invest in a better one!

That’s what I thought too! I usually go for brands with a good reputation.

If your hub doesn't have external power, it could be maxing out the power limits of your USB-C port. Instead of using a hub, trying separate USB-A to C cables for each drive might solve your issues. This way, each drive gets its power directly from the PC without a middleman.

So you're saying I should ditch the hub altogether and just plug them in separately? Sounds simple enough!

Absolutely! It can often reduce issues like disconnections or speed drops.
