Considering a Distro Switch from Mint – What Should I Expect?

I recently transitioned from Windows to Linux and started with Mint Cinnamon. However, I'm finding it a bit dull visually and I'm leaning towards a window manager. I've seen Hyprland but it's not available on Linux, so I'm stuck with Cinnamon for now. I really enjoy using Linux, especially with fun features like my animated mouse and the convenience of installing software using 'sudo apt install'. After some research, I've come across Pika OS, which is Debian-based, uses apt, and supports both Hyprland and KDE Plasma. I'm assuming I just need to back up my dot files and personal files from my Windows boot since I'm dual-booting. What's the process for switching? Should I just overwrite the Mint installation with the new distro?

Have you considered trying Pop OS with Cosmic? They’re releasing version 1.0 soon, and it might fit your aesthetic preferences!

It's true Pop OS has its appeal, but remember, it's a fork of a fork and can carry some Ubuntu baggage. Though, if you're looking for a cuter design, Pika OS might be a better match!

You might also want to give Fedora a shot, especially with Flatpak and RPM-Fusion. It's been really reliable for me. Debian Stable has its merits too, and I’ve heard good things about MX Linux and its tools.

I avoided Fedora due to its corporate vibe. I prefer staying away from corporate influences, even if it's sometimes unavoidable.

Sounds like a solid plan! I often switch distros too, so I keep my data on an external drive or the cloud. It makes things easier when I need to wipe everything and start fresh. Still, I would suggest sticking to one distro once you find one you like; they all start feeling similar after a while. Have you looked into Gnome? It’s a nice change from a Windows feel!

Gnome can look nice, but I still find myself drawn more to Hyprland or KDE Plasma.
