Why is my brother’s PC performance worse after upgrading to a better GPU?

I recently upgraded my brother's PC by giving him my old RTX 3060 Ti, replacing his GTX 1660 Super. He has an Intel i7 10700F CPU, and he used to get about 85 fps on Battlefield 6, with a low of 60 fps. However, since the upgrade, he's averaging around 180-250 fps on Valorant, which is a huge drop from the 400+ fps he was getting before, especially during fights where the fps significantly drops. The gameplay feels bad now, and his monitor even looks a bit blurry, though that might just be a placebo effect. What could be going wrong?

Have you tried updating the drivers? Sometimes having outdated drivers can cause performance issues, especially after a GPU swap. Just make sure to get the latest ones from the manufacturer's website.

Another thing to check is the power supply. Does he have enough wattage to support the 3060 Ti? Also, make sure he's using the right power connector cables because an inadequate power supply can really impact performance.

Don’t forget to check the PCI-e settings in the BIOS. Sometimes toggling those settings can resolve some performance hiccups after a GPU upgrade.

You should consider using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove all old graphics drivers, then reinstall the latest ones. Even if he updated for Battlefield, doing a clean install might help resolve conflicts.

I'll let him know about that. He only updated the drivers for Battlefield without using DDU, so that could definitely help.

It’s worth noting that Battlefield 6 is pretty demanding compared to Valorant. You might want to try lowering the settings to low or turning off some features to squeeze out the most FPS.
