I'm looking to replace a server we have in our office by 2026, which currently manages Active Directory and DHCP for a small group. They have around 13TB of data, and while we're migrating users to the company's main domain, I need to think about file storage solutions. Since we're a relatively small business with about 130 users (and only around 30 users accessing files at one time), I'm hesitant to spend a lot on traditional servers and client access licenses (CALs). Has anyone successfully used a NAS system as a file server? I've heard good things about Synology, but I'm also curious about options like TrueNAS. Any recommendations or insights?

TrueNAS might be a solid option. It's free and reliable, which is hard to beat. A lot of folks have had great experiences with it for similar needs.

Yeah, I’m on the same boat. Using TrueNAS for a file server with great results!
