Hey everyone! I'm thinking about making the jump to Linux for everything I do. I do a lot of video editing and gaming, particularly with titles like Path of Exile and Star Citizen. I'm using an ASUS Zephyrus G15 (2021) with a Ryzen 5800HS processor and a GeForce RTX 3060 6GB video card, plus I've got 32GB of RAM.
I'm curious about what Linux distros would work well on my setup. Why the switch? I'm trying to change my career path towards DevOps, and I'd love to get some insights on that too!
Also, can anyone suggest good video editing software available on Linux? I'm used to Adobe Premiere, so I'd like to know what alternatives I can find. And what are the best offline options for Excel and Word?
I'm really excited but also a bit confused about where to begin! Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated! 😀

I just made the switch to KDE a month ago without any prior knowledge, and I'm absolutely loving it! If I can do it, you can too!
You can go with pretty much any distro based on your needs. For video editing, DaVinci Resolve is a solid choice! As for document editing, check out LibreOffice or OnlyOffice. If you're looking for more comprehensive setup guides, I suggest starting here: [setting up a Linux media studio](https://arslaan.studio/setting-up-a-linux-media-studio-workstation-audio-video-graphics-davinci-resolve-etc/).
I've been using Linux Mint as my main OS for over ten years now. If you're new to Linux, I suggest trying to dual boot or getting a second, cheaper computer to practice on. A $50 laptop from eBay could work well. Once you feel a bit comfortable, then switch your main machine. It makes the whole learning process a lot less stressful!
I switched to Linux Mint, and I have to say, it's been a fantastic experience! I highly recommend it for newbies.
