Considering Switching to Linux for Gaming: What Works and What Doesn’t?

Hey everyone! I recently watched a PewDiePie video and I'm really interested in making the switch from Windows to Linux. I mainly use my PC for gaming, so I'm curious about how well things like Discord, games, and browsers will run on Linux. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you have any good tutorials or video guides, I'd love to see those too!

Gaming on Linux has come a long way, especially with platforms like Steam Deck being quite reliable. However, the main drawback is with competitive games that use anti-cheat systems; those often don’t support Linux since developers typically don’t want them to work. For checking if a game runs well on Linux, ProtonDB is a fantastic resource. If you're just into gaming and prefer a hassle-free experience, sticking to Windows might be best. But if you have an old laptop, switching it to Linux could be a fun project!

Yeah, I've heard about ProtonDB too! It's super handy for checking game compatibility.

It's definitely worth considering dual-booting if you have certain games you can't live without!

If gaming is your main focus, I'd say just stick with Windows for now. Linux can be awesome, but it's not always the best choice if you want a seamless gaming experience.

Most browsers and Discord work great on Linux, so you won't have issues with those. When it comes to games, though, you'll have to check each one individually. A lot of games perform well, but if you find one that's a must-have and it's a no-go on Linux, dual-booting could be your solution.
