Could I have been hacked, or was it just a glitch?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic here. I was just using my computer when I suddenly heard a voice speaking in my headphones. At first, I thought it might be from a game, but I wasn't even playing anything at the time. The voice was in English, which is odd because I don't speak it and live somewhere it's not commonly spoken. I recorded it, startled, and when I replayed the clip, I was still confused. The audio reset itself to zero and I heard the voice again a couple of times. The only word I caught was "hacked" or "hack." I've since turned off my computer and I'm not sure what my next steps should be. Can anyone help?

Your router should provide some protection, especially with a firewall. Most hacking occurs because users download unwanted software or visit sketchy sites. If you think you’ve been hacked, check your router logs for unusual activity. Also, if you have that voice clip, you can try translating it at Google Translate.

It’s possible that an ad started playing from an open browser tab. I doubt someone would hack your computer just to let you know you’re hacked. It’s more likely a random glitch.

Yeah, I agree. Sounds more like an ad. You could check your tabs when you start your computer back up.

There are several things that could explain what you’re experiencing. If you’re worried you’re hacked, here’s what to do:

1. Disconnect your computer from the internet.
2. Change your passwords; avoid reusing any across sites.
3. Run a full antivirus scan, using Windows Defender or Malwarebytes.

If you haven’t done anything risky online, you’re probably safe, but it’s good to take precautions.
