Could Modded Minecraft Be Causing My Computer Crashes?

Hey everyone! I've been diving into modded Minecraft for about a week now, but I've been running into some serious issues. My laptop, an MSI Raider GE78 HX with 16GB of RAM, keeps crashing due to RAM problems. Even when I try to allocate more memory, it seems like I'm using a ton already—running Firefox and Discord takes up almost all of it! I'm honestly confused because Task Manager doesn't show what's hogging the memory; it looks like it should only be around 5GB of usage.

The game itself has been crashing every couple of hours, freezing my computer completely. Once, I even got a blue screen of death! I brushed it off, but then my laptop blue screened while I was just working on school stuff, with no games running. I've run system checks, and my drivers are updated, but I seem to be the sole person having these meltdowns in my friend group. What do you think could be causing this?

It sounds like you're running into some serious RAM issues. Have you tried checking if your RAM is actually healthy? Running a tool like memtest86+ can help diagnose any problems with the RAM. The frequent blue screens point more towards possible hardware issues rather than something Minecraft is doing to your system. If your RAM passes, consider checking the SSD with a diagnostic tool, as it could be starting to fail too. Definitely give that a shot!

Yeah, I had a similar issue when my RAM was faulty. You'd be surprised how much trouble just one bad stick can cause. Good luck!

Also, Minecraft itself shouldn’t be damaging your system. If it's crashing your game, it could just be an issue with how the mods are interacting with your system. Keep an eye on your error codes when the blue screen happens—they can help pinpoint the problem. If you post them, maybe someone can give more specific advice!

I totally thought Minecraft was the culprit too. But once I checked my error messages, I realized it was actually my drivers messing things up.

It might help to clear out some unnecessary files and consider a clean install of Windows. I know it sounds like a hassle, but over time, installs can get really bloated, which leads to memory issues. Just doing a reset or update won’t clean it up completely. If it’s been 8 months since you last did a fresh install, now's a good time!

Totally agree! A clean install can work wonders. Just make sure to back up your data first!
