Could my case be shorting my motherboard?

I'm building a PC for a friend using an NZXT H7 Flow case and a GIGABYTE B850 Eagle Ice motherboard. The first time I powered it on from the case, it only lasted 2-3 seconds before it stopped working. Initially, I thought it was the motherboard, so I returned it and got a new one. After testing the new one outside of the case, it worked well and I even accessed the BIOS with all components recognized. However, as soon as I mounted everything back into the case, the same issue occurred: it powered on for just 2-3 seconds and then died. I also tried using different power supplies, but the problem persists. The PSU works fine with other setups and passes the paperclip test. The standoffs in the NZXT case are preinstalled, which leaves me unsure about what to do next. Anyone have ideas?

You should definitely double-check that there aren’t any standoffs that might be causing a short. Sometimes cases have preinstalled standoffs that don’t align properly with the motherboard. It’s a common issue, so it might be worth a quick look again.

If you’ve already checked the standoffs and everything seems fine, consider testing the motherboard outside of the case again but with just the essentials: CPU, one stick of RAM, and PSU. This can help isolate whether the case is the issue or if there’s something else at play.
