Could My CPU Be Dead After Running Hot?

I recently had my PC configured with an Intel i5-10400 CPU, a stock Intel cooler, an MSI B560M Pro E motherboard, and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. I shut down my PC normally two days ago without any issues. However, today, when I attempted to power it on, the motherboard isn't POSTING. It shows a red LED that indicates a CPU problem, and then it shuts down. Previously, I noticed that the CPU was reaching temperatures of 98°C while I was playing BF2042, despite not overclocking and using proper thermal paste (Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut). Should I start looking for a new 11th gen CPU, or do I have other options? Please avoid suggesting a complete rebuild; I want to minimize the costs if the CPU is indeed the issue. The 10th and 11th gen CPUs still perform well in games.

The red CPU LED is definitely concerning, especially after running at 98°C for a while. I’d recommend reseating both your CPU and cooler before anything else. If that doesn’t work, resetting the CMOS might help. Meanwhile, consider getting an Intel 11400F as a backup option, but definitely look into better cooling for your setup.

I’m open to any CPU up to the 11700. And does 11th gen really support AVX512?
