Could My GPU and Monitor Have Been Damaged by a Chewed PSU Cable?

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind here and could use some help. I recently discovered that my rabbit chewed on my power supply (PSU) cable, and while it didn't look too bad on the outside, I'm worried it might have caused some damage. Here are my specs:
- **Motherboard:** Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II
- **GPU:** AMD Radeon 6700XT
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen (can't recall the exact model)
- **PSU:** Seasonic S12II-520 Bronze (connected to an old surge protector)
- **Monitor:** ASUS TUF Gaming VG27VQMY (via HDMI)

When I tried to turn on my PC, my monitor didn't recognize any input and the motherboard lit up a bright white light in the "VGA" section, indicating it couldn't detect the graphics card. I've tried reseating the GPU and even swapped it out for an old one, but no luck. My guess is that the PSU might be failing to provide enough power to the GPU since the fans spin but there's no display.

As for the monitor, it's now completely unresponsive to any input from HDMI, even after trying it on multiple devices. It still powers on and lets me navigate its menu, but it won't display anything.

I'm really frustrated about this situation, especially since the monitor was brand new. Any thoughts on whether my rabbit's chewing could have caused a power surge or damaged my gear? Would love to hear your insights!

It sounds like the PSU cables might have some damage. You should check the cable closely with a flashlight for any exposed metal or additional chew marks. Also, have you tried using the graphic output on the motherboard instead? That could help determine if it’s an issue with your GPU. Don't forget to ensure that your monitor is set to the correct input port, such as HDMI 1 or similar. And if you have a different type of cable lying around, like DisplayPort, that might be worth trying too!

I got a new power cable and tested it, but still no success. My monitor has 2 HDMI ports and 1 DisplayPort; I’ll give the DisplayPort a shot now! Thanks for the tips!

Quick update: I tried the DisplayPort and it actually worked! Seems like only the HDMI ports were affected.

It’s unlikely that a rabbit chewing the cable caused an actual power surge, but it might have caused a short or some intermittent issues. Your PSU not powering the GPU could also be a symptom of underlying PSU issues. That Seasonic model has a bit of a sketchy reputation. I’d suggest testing that other GPU in one of the different slots; the second x16 slot connects differently inside your system.

But honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the monitor is taking damage from something. If your monitor’s HDMI inputs aren't working anymore, a DisplayPort might be your best bet to test.

Thanks for the heads-up. I never knew about the PSU issues. I ordered a Corsair PSU due to that info! Also, I’ll put the old GPU in the secondary slot and see what happens with both outputs.

Update: I’m back in business! Using the old GPU with the DisplayPort got my monitor working again. Loaded everything up after and now my current GPU works too! Maybe just the HDMI ports on the monitor were fried.
