Could My Ryzen CPU Be Dead After Just a Year?

I'm having issues with my PC and need help figuring out if my Ryzen 5 5500 CPU has failed or if it's a problem with the motherboard. My setup was running great until recently, but now it won't even POST. The EZ Debug LED shows a constant CPU indicator, and no fans spin when I hit the power button. If I try to turn it off manually, it just attempts to power back on. I've done various troubleshooting steps, like resetting the CMOS, swapping out components like the PSU, GPU, and RAM, and trying to update the BIOS. However, I can't test with another CPU since I don't have one available. I'm starting to think the motherboard might be the issue, but since the CPU is fairly new and in good shape, I'm hesitant to get a new board without confirming it's not the CPU. How can I tell if it's the motherboard or the CPU that's dead?

Have you tried using just one stick of known working RAM? Sometimes memory issues can prevent booting too, and testing each stick in every slot can help identify a problem.

Honestly, anything can fail after some time, but typically the CPU is pretty reliable. From what you've described, it seems more likely that either the motherboard or possibly the power supply is at fault. The zero fan spin and the CPU debug LED being on usually indicate a failed board rather than the CPU itself. Since the BIOS flashback didn't work either, I’d lean towards the MSI motherboard being the issue here.

Yeah, I agree. It's rare for a CPU to just fail, but the motherboard can definitely go bad. It might be worth checking if you can borrow a CPU from someone just to test.

Check if your motherboard is under warranty. Sometimes they have more than a year. If so, you could potentially get it replaced. Also, see if you can borrow a CPU from a friend or someone nearby for testing.

It's a good idea to take the CPU out and inspect it for any signs of damage, like burnt spots. If everything looks fine, just reseat it and give it another shot. That’s about all you can do without a spare CPU.
