Crashing and Artifacts in Games: How Do I Troubleshoot?

I'm running into some frustrating issues with crashes while playing certain games like Duet Night Abyss and Once Human. It seems like every time I load into a new area, the game locks up, causing my Discord to stop working for my friends. If I try to alt-tab, the game crashes altogether. Recently, while playing Once Human, I even had to force my PC to shut down because it wouldn't let me tab out. I'm questioning whether my WD Blue SN570 2TB SSD is to blame since it's still fairly new, though the drive health looks good.

I've also occasionally experienced artifacting. I notice flickering in Firefox sometimes, which I understand is a known issue, but I also see strange graphical glitches on the boot login screen. This hasn't happened in a while, though. I previously needed to disable Multi-Plane Overlay due to some significant artifacting, which included black square checkerboard patterns.

I've already run checks on my RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB DDR4-3200 CL16), and my GPU (RTX 3070) and CPU (Ryzen 9 5900X) are fairly recent too. My biggest concerns are the motherboard and PSU, both from 2019. The PSU is a Supernova 750WG2, and my motherboard is a Gigabyte AORUS Pro Wifi, which has had issues with locked RGB colors since the first year. I've made my peace with that, but I'm hoping to figure out what's causing these crashing and artifacting problems. Any advice?

It might seem basic, but have you done a clean reinstall of your graphics drivers? Using a tool like DDU can help clear out existing driver clutter and ensure you have a fresh install.

Yes! DDU is a great way to do it, just make sure you do it in safe mode for the best results.

A straightforward step to try is to remove your GPU and run your system under a heavy load without it. If the crashes persist, it’s likely not the GPU, but if it doesn’t, then that could be the culprit. Just keep in mind you'll need some basic graphics to see what's happening since your CPU isn’t an APU!

For that, you could run stress tests like Prime95 or AIDA64. Just remember you'll need to keep an eye on temperatures wherever possible!
