Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a really annoying high-pitched noise in one of our data centers. There's a fan in a neighboring cage that's making this pretty irritating sound, about three times a second. It drives you nuts after being in there for a while. I've tried wearing earmuffs with earplugs, plus my noise-cancelling earbuds, but this noise seems to resonate through my whole body. Any suggestions on how to handle this? Thanks!

Have you thought about using industrial ear protection? It could help reduce the decibel levels enough to make the noise more bearable. Also, make sure you've reported this issue; if it isn't causing any alarms, the team might not be aware of it yet.
You should definitely report this to the vendor and get that fan replaced. It sounds like it's malfunctioning, and proper maintenance is key to keeping the noise down.
Honestly, you really shouldn't be in a data center without hearing protection. If the fan isn't yours, it's not your responsibility, but it might be nice to inform the DC staff so they can let the folks in that cage know about the issue. Given the regular sound pattern, it could also be an alarm rather than just a broken fan.
Got it, I might mention it to the staff. Any other tips on ear protection?

I don't even know which vendor that would be since it's in a neighboring cage, and I can't tell what DC customer it is!
