Dealing with Amazon’s RAM Stock Issues: Will I Get a Refund for the Price Difference?

Hey everyone! I'm reaching out because I've run into a huge issue with Amazon and I need some advice regarding RAM for my new PC build. I ordered 32GB of DDR5 RAM on November 18 for a pretty good price, but after weeks of waiting, it turns out it was out of stock. Amazon offered me an alternative—another 64GB kit at a similar price—but then that also showed as out of stock right at checkout. So now I'm in a tough spot since my first order got canceled and I can't find a decent RAM kit at a similar price anymore.

Amazon suggested that I buy whatever RAM I want, saying they would refund me the price difference once I receive it. I'm really worried about this, though. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with Amazon where they actually honored a price difference refund? I'm scared I'll end up paying the full price without the promised refund, especially now when RAM prices are skyrocketing. I initially ordered CORSAIR Vengeance RGB DDR5 RAM. Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I've never dealt with an adjustment that large either, but it doesn’t hurt to try. Worst-case scenario, you could always return the RAM if it becomes an issue and look for another option instead. Just remember to get something fulfilled by Amazon if you can.

You might want to just let go of the idea of getting those specific 32GB sticks for that price. To be honest, it seems like RAM prices have really shot up lately, especially with all the stock issues. Your best bet might be to look for something smaller, like 2x16GB, if that works for you.

Is it really that big of a deal to lose the 32GB? I guess it hurts, but maybe it’s smarter to downsize for now.

Exactly! If you don’t specifically need 64GB right now, going for less might be the way to go.

Honestly, this sounds more like just a frustrating situation rather than Amazon trying to scam you. Sometimes stock issues happen. As for the refund, I haven't seen them do that before, so just stay cautious. If you end up getting the RAM anyway, it might be worth trying!

Totally agree, but keep your wits about you. I recommend taking screenshots of your chat log with support, just in case—I've learned from experience that not all reps are on the same page.

Yeah, it’s super annoying but it does happen. Just know that if they don’t come through on the refund, it’ll be a hassle to return the RAM later.

If you're flexible, you might check places like hardware swap forums. Sometimes you can find better deals where sellers actually have stock ready to go.

You will definitely get back your payment for the out-of-stock RAM, but expect to pay the new higher price first. Honestly, unless you really need that 64GB, you could just buy the minimum you need and reassess later.

I've been through a similar ordeal before with Amazon. They did promise to honor a price difference for me, but it was a hassle. The first rep told me they would, but when I tried to buy it again, they didn't keep any notes about it. Just be prepared for that kind of runaround. I’d recommend keeping detailed records of your chats.

Thanks! I think I’ll start documenting everything just in case. It's just frustrating doing all this back and forth with them.
