Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a panic. I was building my brand new PC and had everything set up—added the RAM, SSD, CPU, GPU, and CPU cooler all to the motherboard. I plugged the 24-pin connector into the PSU along with the CPU power. When I powered on the PSU to test run the system, nothing showed on the monitor. A minute later, the PSU made a loud bang and let out some smoke, so I quickly unplugged it. Now I'm worried I might have just lost $3k. What are the chances my components are still okay? How can I check if they're still alive?

Definitely reach out to Corsair customer support. While they may not replace everything, they should handle the PSU replacement under warranty.
If the PSU blew and it was a solid brand, it likely failed safely, meaning it shouldn't have passed mains current to your motherboard. I recommend returning the PSU for a replacement. Just make sure it can handle the load—if it was overloaded, that could be why it blew. When you get a new one, try powering it up and check for power LED indicators on the motherboard.
Invest in a PSU tester. They go for around $10-$20 on Amazon and can help confirm whether your PSU is working.
Was the PSU brand new, not an open box or anything? And make sure you used the cables that came with it. That's really important.
Everything was brand new, including the Corsair RM850x.
You might just need a new PSU, but you won't know what else could be damaged until you can test your components with a working PSU. Fingers crossed!
I don't have another PSU since this is my first build. Do you think Corsair will replace it?
Ouch! That’s tough. Hope it’s just the PSU that got fried!
Yeah, I'm hoping for the best.
If your PSU is decent, there's a chance the other components survived. Don't panic just yet!
It's a Corsair RM850x, right? That's usually a reliable brand.

My setup was supposed to be a 9070 XT with a 7800X3D and 32GB CL30, 2TB. Is the RM850x still adequate?
