Did I Just Get Malware from a News Site?

I was browsing a well-known news website when suddenly I was confronted with a scary page that said my computer was infected with viruses. There were so many flashy images and pop-ups that it took a few moments for me to close the tab. I exited the page as quickly as possible and cleared my browser history. I didn't click on any of the links, but I'm worried I might have picked up some malware since I'm not very tech-savvy, and I get anxious about these internet scams. What should I do?

Just to be on the safe side, clear your history, cookies, and flush your cache! It's a good precaution after encountering those scare pages.

You might want to look into using services like Quad9 or NextDNS. They can help filter your DNS requests and keep your computer safer while browsing.

You should definitely consider installing uBlock Origin! It helps prevent these ads and pop-ups from showing up in the first place. Plus, it blocks ads on YouTube and other sites too.

Make sure to disable any plugins you have installed. It's unlikely (though not impossible) that the malware came from a reputable news site.

As long as you didn't click on anything, you should be okay. However, it's a good idea to run a virus scan just to be safe!
