Did I Make the Wrong Move by Leaving My Old Job?

I recently left a stressful job where I spent nearly seven years. I started as a Level 1 support agent and worked my way up to a team lead position for the Helpdesk, but things became overwhelming. The workload was intense, especially after a coworker went on leave without a replacement, making it hard to maintain our schedules and deliver on our commitments. After resigning completely, I joined a small business nearby, thinking it would be a good change, but so far, I'm finding it hard to see how I've improved. The role seems more like Level 1/2 support instead of what I expected in infrastructure management. Plus, I'm worried about my career development since the tools we use feel outdated, and I'm facing a lot of responsibilities. My wife is also expecting our second child soon, which complicates any job changes. Any advice on how to navigate this situation?

Remember, the only mistake is not taking risks. Stick with it for a bit and see how it goes. If it really doesn't work out, you'll have the chance to make a move when you're more settled, especially considering your family dynamics. Your current situation can still support your family while you figure it out!

Don't just sit back and wait for improvements; take the initiative to make changes yourself. It’s an opportunity to grow and learn.

Welcome to the world of small businesses! You might find you have to wear many hats, but this versatility can be a great learning experience. In larger companies, you'd have specialists, but here, you can really get your hands into different areas. It’s all about how you perceive this new challenge, so keep an open mind!

Just two days in? Give yourself some grace! They probably hired you to improve the existing documentation and workflows. If you can affect change there, you'll really carve out your own role. Keep pushing for those improvements and see where it takes you.

I've been in a similar position before. Moving from a larger team to a small business feels daunting initially, but it can also be rewarding. Sure, it's a juggling act, but you get to make decisions your way. Just give it time—this role might surprise you!
