Hey everyone! I haven't been keeping up with PC building since I built my rig with a 12700k and RTX 3080 a couple of years ago. Recently, I bought a used GIGABYTE 4080 Aero OC for $950 on eBay, and with shipping and tax, the total came out to around $1030. I'm curious if I overpaid for this card. To be specific:
* Was $950 the original MSRP for the GIGABYTE 4080 Aero OC? How does this compare to the current market?
* Is the 4080 still worth buying considering the new Nvidia 50 series that just came out?
* Coming from an RTX 3080, is this a good upgrade? Would love to hear your thoughts!

If the 4080 arrives in good condition, you might not have a total loss. Given that prices for those can still skyrocket to $1500 or even $2200, you might come out alright. Just remember, the performance jump from your 3080 to the 4080 won’t be the massive upgrade you might be hoping for.
It really seems like a bad deal, especially considering the timing with the 50 series out now. You might need to sit on that 4080 longer than you'd like. Your 3080 isn't outdated just yet, and for the price you paid, you probably could have gotten something more recent for better performance.
I suspected as much! I thought I was getting a deal, but it looks like I need to reconsider next time.
Honestly, I think you might have overpaid. The newer RTX 5070 Ti is roughly 1% slower at 1440p, comes with better DLSS tech, and can still be found close to its MSRP of about $750. While a 4080 is definitely a solid upgrade over your 3080, the price you're paying seems pretty steep given the current options.
Right? For around $800, you could get a brand new 5070 Ti with a warranty. It just doesn't make sense to pay more for an older card.

True, but I’d rather not pay premium prices for something that’s already been succeeded by newer models. What’s the point of paying top dollar for something that's not current?
