Hey everyone! I'm looking for some recommendations on a static website generator for a personal project I'm hosting on GitHub Pages. As a backend developer, I want to create a completely free educational website for parrot owners. I'm aiming for it to be mobile-friendly with easy access to various topics right from the homepage, such as General Guide, Diet, Household Dangers, etc. It should be user-friendly, especially for seniors who may not be familiar with navigation icons like the Hamburger menu. I'm considering using Markdown for writing content, and while I've had good experiences with Docusaurus before, it doesn't meet my layout needs this time. I've found Gatsby overly complicated and I'm not interested in using heavy frameworks. Ideally, I want to avoid no-code solutions that require a monthly payment. Any suggestions on what static site generator would work best for my scenario? Thanks for the help!

If you're comfortable with a bit of coding, you could roll your own with Vue and Vite using vite-ssg. You'll have full control over your structure and design.
Have you looked into Hugo? It's really powerful and allows you to use Markdown for all your content. There's a ton of free themes available too, so you shouldn't have to worry about building one from scratch. Plus, the community is super active and helpful!
I'd recommend Astro! It’s a great choice for building content-heavy sites with a modern touch. It won't complicate things too much, and you'll benefit from a straightforward setup.
You should check out Eleventy! It's a straightforward static site generator written in JavaScript and super easy to use. Perfect for what you're trying to achieve.
I think Astro and Eleventy are your best bets. They're both user-friendly and have great documentation to get you started without much hassle!
