Did my downloaded .rar file disappear, and should I be worried?

I downloaded a .rar file that was supposed to be about 300mb, but when it reached around 90mb, the download abruptly stopped and the file vanished from my downloads folder and my browser's download tab. I'm using a Samsung phone, and I've searched everywhere for the file but can't find anything. I'm concerned it might have been a malicious executable disguised as a .rar file. So, I have a few questions: 1. Is there a reliable way to check for spyware or any threats? 2. Am I in serious trouble? 3. How bad is my situation?

It’s unlikely that just downloading a file would cause you any harm. It sounds like your browser might have automatically deleted it, especially since you mentioned it stopped downloading at 90mb. I've experienced similar issues on my Android too, and usually, it’s all good. You should be fine!

Since you didn't finish downloading the file, there was likely just a temporary file created that got deleted afterward. Nothing too concerning there.

Android doesn’t really support .rar files natively, so the odds of someone using those to exploit Samsung devices are really low. You should be in the clear!

It’s probably gone because a safety feature kicked in. On my Windows PC, I often have to deal with my computer preventing me from opening suspicious files. It's a protective measure, so don't worry too much about it disappearing.

Your title kind of clashes with what you shared in your post. Since the download didn't complete, the temporary file was probably auto-deleted. Nothing to stress about!

You’re generally safe unless you executed something. Just downloading doesn’t usually pose a threat. But always keep your guard up!
