In our office, we have a server and four workstations that need to be in the same subnet to function correctly. We recently switched our internet service provider and plan to simply unplug the old modem from our existing router and connect it to the new modem, which is already set up and activated. However, our software vendor mentioned that it's not that straightforward and wants to charge us extra for network configuration. My question is: if we connect to the same router, should the devices automatically remain in the same subnet? What additional configurations might be necessary?

It sounds like your vendor might be exaggerating a bit. As long as you're just swapping out the modem and you're not making any changes to your router's internal settings or VLAN configurations, your devices should remain in the same subnet without any issues. Switching modems typically only affects the WAN side, leaving your local network configuration intact.
Right? It’s odd they’d want to come in for such a simple change, especially if everything's running through NAT. It sounds like they might just be trying to make extra cash.
