I'm in the process of building my first PC and I just realized that I need an operating system! I'm coming from using a Mac laptop for all my day-to-day tasks. I've come across information suggesting that it's quite tricky, or even impossible, to download the Windows installer onto a USB drive using a Mac. Since I don't have access to any other PCs, it seems like my only option might be to buy the USB directly from Microsoft at a hefty price of $190 CAD. Am I missing out on any alternatives, or is this really my best bet? Also, I appreciate any additional tips!

If you're open to alternatives, Linux is free! You could try CachyOS if it fits your needs better.
Consider buying a Windows 10 key for around $10 and then upgrading to Windows 11. Just make sure your motherboard supports TPM. You'll likely need to enable it in your BIOS manually, though. Don't wait too long—there's a deadline for this!
You should also check eBay! There are some reasonably priced Windows keys there. Another option is this Apple support link: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102622—it details how you can install Windows on your Mac and could help with getting the installer.
This installs Windows on your Mac and maybe you can use that to download the Windows installer.
Have you tried going to a local library? They often have PCs available, and you might be able to use one to download Windows onto a USB you've purchased. Alternatively, check with a nearby electronics store—they might help you with the installation!
Thanks, I'll definitely try my local electronics store if I can't get the ISO to work.
You can actually just download the Windows ISO from Microsoft and use balenaEtcher on your Mac to create a bootable USB drive. You can activate Windows later! Here's the link to get the ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows11
Thank you so much, I'll check it out!
Either way, you'll end up paying close to that much for a key after you install it. Just go for the ISO with balenaEtcher, it's straightforward!
You can bypass putting a key in during installation, if I remember correctly.
Why before October?
