Do I Need a New Power Supply for a GPU Upgrade?

I'm considering upgrading my PC to enhance performance for 1440p gaming at high-ultra settings and over 100 FPS. I've been looking into the 9070 XT, but I'm unsure if my current power supply will handle it. Right now, I've got a Corsair CX650M that's only about three months old and seems quite new. My setup can handle 1080p at high-ultra settings with over 100 FPS in most games, but when I try 1440p with similar settings, the FPS tends to drop into the 80s, which is noticeable in titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield 6.

Here are my specs:
- R5 7600X
- RX 6700 XT
- 32GB DDR5 6000 CL36
- AsRock B650M Pro RS WIFI
- CX650M

You might want to upgrade to an 850W PSU, which are relatively affordable at around $100. It’s worth the investment for some extra safety margin and future-proofing your build.

The 9070 XT can be a bit demanding, especially with instantaneous power needs. If your CX650M is the ATX3.1 model, it’s better equipped for those spikes, but it still feels a bit risky to run at that limit.

A good rule of thumb is to add your GPU's TDP, your CPU's TDP, and then an extra 100W. So with your 650W PSU, you’re looking at about 420W left for your CPU and GPU combined. What’s the TDP of your CPU?

It's 7600X.

After considering all the advice, I think getting a 750 or 850W unit is the safer bet—thanks, everyone!

For the 9070 XT, AMD suggests a minimum of 750W. While a high-quality PSU might let you use a lower wattage, the CX650M isn’t the top performer out there, so you might be cutting it close.
