Do I need specific RAM for my processor and motherboard?

Hey everyone, I've been building my new PC for days and I'm running into some problems. Most of the games I play keep crashing. I've checked my hardware drivers and everything is updated. However, when I looked in my BIOS, I noticed that my RAM is Intel XMP ready. Does that mean my RAM isn't compatible with my AMD 9800X3D processor and my motherboard? Also, where can I find RAM that works well with AMD Expo?

If the RAM isn't compatible, it wouldn't fit in the slots and your system wouldn't boot up. Your problem might be from overheating or unstable overclocking. There's also a chance of having compatible yet faulty RAM.

I checked and my RAM is Dominator Platinum 2x32GB 6600MHz. It’s marked as Intel XMP ready, but it shows 64GB in my Task Manager. Still, my games keep lagging or crashing.

RAM is pretty straightforward — if it fits, it works! But keep an eye on your clock speed. Your 6600MHz RAM might be on the higher end, and some AMD processors perform better at around 6000MHz. That slight difference could be what's causing the lag or crashes.

Could it really be the clock speed causing the issues? I read that higher speeds sometimes lead to better performance, but maybe I need to try lowering it?

Yeah, RAM compatibility can depend on the generation. For example, AMD Ryzen processors from the 1000 to 5000 series typically use DDR4, while laptop versions use DDR4 SO-DIMMs which are smaller. So, just make sure you're matching the right type to your setup.
