I'm looking to buy a replacement charger for my laptop because my original one is no longer working. The specs for my old charger are: OUTPUT of 19V = 1.75A and 33W. I've found some online options, but I'm hesitant to trust them given the high prices and my past experiences with original chargers failing quickly. There's a universal charger available at a local tech shop that I'm considering, but its specs are slightly different—OUTPUT of 19V = 2.37A and 45W. I've heard mixed opinions online about whether only the voltage needs to match while others say amperage matters too. Can someone clarify if it's safe to use a charger with a higher amperage without damaging my laptop?

The amperage of the new charger can be higher than your laptop’s requirement without any issues. If your laptop only needs 1.75A, it will draw that much regardless of the charger’s ability to supply 2.37A. The important thing is that the voltage matches, which it does (19V). So you're all good!

Thanks for the reassurance! I just got the universal charger from the shop, and it’s working great; it charges at the same pace as my old one without any overheating.
