Why Does My RTX 3080 Seem Underperforming Compared to Benchmarks?

I've recently upgraded my PC, moving from an RX 570 to an RTX 3080, and while I've noticed some improvements, I can't shake the feeling that it's not performing up to par with all the benchmarks I've seen. I've updated the BIOS and drivers, but I'm worried my Ryzen 7 5700 might be holding it back. A friend who does PC repairs mentioned that my thermal pads could be worn out, which could lead to VRAM overheating. Would changing those out help? Despite undervolting the card and keeping it under 65 degrees, I'm only getting around 55 fps in BF6 RedSec on ultra with DLSS performance mode. Other games like Outer Worlds 2 and Skate show similar issues. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?

Have you tried running 3DMark Time Spy to compare your results against similar setups? It could help narrow down where the issue lies. Additionally, keep an eye on Task Manager to see if something else is using up resources while you're gaming.

Alright, I'll give that a go, thanks!

Here are a few things to try:
1. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove all graphics drivers and reinstall the latest ones for the 3080. This is a simple first step.
2. The CPU in those benchmarks might be higher-tier than your 5700, skewing what you're seeing. If your CPU bottlenecks, it could affect performance significantly.
3. Regarding thermal issues, worn thermal pads can contribute, but usually not drastically. Still, check temperatures using HWINFO64 while stress testing.
4. Lastly, check if your GPU has a dual BIOS switch. It might be worth ensuring it’s not set to a quieter mode.

Does having a single 16GB DDR4 module at 3200MHz matter with this setup?

That's a good point! Using a single module can impact performance, especially in bandwidth-intensive scenarios. Ideally, two modules would be better.

First off, your Ryzen 7 5700 should be fine for the 3080, but let's dig into a few things. Can you share your RAM specs? Sometimes RAM size and speed can limit performance. Also, be sure to check the thermals for both your CPU and GPU to rule out overheating issues. They can really affect everything!

The base 5700 has only 16MB of L3 cache, which can slow things down a bit. Just something to consider!
