I have a CPU power cable with two connectors: one 8-pin and a 4+4. My motherboard has two 8-pin power sockets. I know my PC will work if I only plug one in, but is it safe to plug both connectors into the motherboard?

It's really not a big deal unless you're pushing your CPU to the limits with extreme overclocks. But honestly, since your cable has two connectors, I'd just go ahead and plug both in for good measure!
You can get away with just plugging one in, especially if you're not planning on overclocking heavily. But what's your PSU? Got an EVGA or something?
It's definitely better to plug both in if they're available. It helps with power distribution, especially during intensive tasks.
Does it make a difference since they come from the same cable?
I have an EVGA Supernova 650W G2. It's getting old but still runs fine!
