I'm transitioning my dedicated amateur radio desktop to Linux and I'm liking Mint so far. I've been running it off a USB to test some software, but I'm wondering if the programs I've installed while using the USB will carry over if I decide to do a full installation on my hard drive. Will I have to reinstall everything? Thanks!

Unfortunately, you'll need to reinstall any apps you've set up while running Mint from the USB. The live environment operates on temporary memory, so any changes will disappear once you restart or shut down your computer.
If you're open to it, consider dual-booting Windows with Mint while you're exploring. It lets you keep both systems until you're ready to fully switch. Just allocate a small part of your hard drive for Mint, and when you're ready, you can format the Windows partition to use for storage later.
Hey there! Just to add, yes, you'll have to reinstall those programs and also set up your settings again. It's great that you've found a distro you enjoy! Good luck getting everything configured to your liking! 73s!
