I'm planning a significant upgrade to my PC, which includes changing my motherboard, CPU, power supply, case, and RAM. I will be transferring my storage drive that already has Windows installed on it. Specifically, I'm moving from an Asus Prime Intel H610M-A WiFi D4 motherboard to an MSI MAG Intel Tomahawk Z790 WiFi D5, and upgrading my CPU from an Intel i5-12400F to an i5-12600KF. Would I need to reinstall Windows on my new setup? Any advice would be super helpful! 😀

Honestly, moving from the 12400 to the 12600K isn't a game-changing upgrade—you're still getting 6 cores, just with 4 slow additional cores. Consider saving some cash on the motherboard and maybe investing in a better CPU instead.

You might find that reinstalling Windows isn't strictly necessary, but you'll need to reinstall the drivers regardless of whether you change the motherboard or not. So, while it’s not required, a reinstall can really help to keep everything running smoothly.

Reinstalling is usually the best practice to avoid driver conflicts, and it’s pretty quick—should take less than 30 minutes. A fresh install means your system will likely run better, even if it means a little extra work up front.

You don't have to reinstall Windows if you don't want to, but it might be a good idea. It can help you avoid potential problems down the line. If you're feeling lucky and want to take a chance that the drivers won’t clash, you could just plug the drive into the new PC and see if it works. But if it's a gaming rig, you might want to play it safe and go for the reinstall to keep everything smooth.
