Do I need to use a 12V 2×6 cable for the PCIe PWR1 on my motherboard?

I'm currently building my PC and wondering if I should plug a 12V 2x6 cable into the PCIe PWR1 on my motherboard. I have a ROG Loki 1200W PSU and an Astral 5090 GPU. The only PCIe cables I have are those that connect a 12V 2x6 to two 6+2 connectors. I want to make sure I won't damage my motherboard by doing this! Just to clarify, I'm asking specifically about the PCIe PWR1 connection, which has an 8+2 format on the motherboard.

You should definitely use a dedicated PCIe cable that connects the GPU directly to the PSU without splitting. Using a 12V 2x6 to 6+2 setup for the GPU should be fine since it’s designed for that. Just make sure everything is connected properly and you'll be good to go!

Right! Just ensure the cable from the PSU matches what your GPU needs, and everything should be fine.

Using any standard 6+2 PCIe cable from your PSU to the PCIe PWR1 on the motherboard should work just like the others. Just ensure the connections are secure, and you shouldn't have any issues!

Got it, thanks! So I can use my available cables without worrying about frying anything.
