Do I really need a cooler for my Ryzen 7 5700x before using it?

I'm aware that Ryzen CPUs like the 5700x don't come with stock coolers, and I just want to test boot my new PC. I'm wondering if it's safe to do so without a cooler or if I should wait for my CPU cooler to arrive. Will it overheat? Can I run it for a short period?

Honestly, turning it on without a cooler isn’t worth it. You won't get enough time to even see if it posts, so it's better to just wait until you can install the cooler.

Yes, you need a cooler for your CPU, no doubt about it!

While you can run it for 20 or 30 seconds max, definitely don't leave it on longer than that. It heats up fast, and waiting for your cooler is really the safest option.

If you’re looking for a cooler, consider the A620, it's a great budget option. If you want something even cheaper, the 214xt is under $17. Just avoid running your CPU without cooling!

You could technically turn it on for a quick check to see if it posts, but make sure to keep checking the temperature by feeling it with your finger. If it gets too hot, shut it down immediately. Honestly, it’s better to just wait for your cooler to arrive.

That’s a good tip! Can't hurt to check as long as you’re careful.
