Do I really need an 800W PSU for the XFX Mercury RX 9070XT OC?

Hey folks! I'm putting together a new PC with an RX 9070XT GPU and a 9700X CPU. I was initially considering a 750W power supply, but I noticed that the 850W model is only about €10 more. The spec for the XFX Mercury RX 9070XT OC says it requires a minimum of 800W. That got me thinking—do I really need to go for 800W? Should I even consider a 1000W PSU? That feels like overkill for my setup! What do you all think?

750W is technically the minimum spec. Higher-end models like yours demand more power due to better delivery and cooling, hence the 800W recommendation. Getting at least 800W is wise, plus many 850W options aren't significantly pricier. If you plan to upgrade GPUs later, a 1000W could be worth it, especially since good PSUs last a long time and often come with long warranties.

I'm pretty sure no one has ever complained about having too much power! Better safe than sorry.

750W should work fine with your setup, especially if your CPU doesn’t draw too much power, like the 7800X3D or 9800X3D. The 800W and 900W ratings are typically precautionary for higher wattage CPUs, like the overclocked 14900K.

If the 850W option is just a little more, I'd say go for it! It's a solid choice. The PowerColor Hellhound is also a great value for your needs.

It's best to run PSUs at around 40-60% of their max capacity for efficiency. Many upgrade to PSUs that are 50% more powerful than what they just had. For long-term use, it makes sense to invest in a higher wattage PSU.
