Do I really need such a powerful CPU for my new GPU?

Hey everyone! I just got a Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU and I'm thinking about pairing it with the 9800X3D CPU because I've seen others recommend this combo. I heard it's really powerful, which I'm hoping will help with my streaming needs, especially since I want to stream and play games simultaneously. But someone mentioned that this CPU might be overkill for what I need. I'm not super tech-savvy, so I'm unsure what that means or how it might affect my PC performance. Also, if the 9800X3D isn't the best choice, could you suggest some alternative CPUs? Lastly, I'm considering a Corsair 850W PSU—good idea?

Your friend probably means that you could have saved some cash by opting for a less powerful CPU and still have excellent performance. But hey, if you can afford it and want the best, go for it! Also, that PSU choice is solid!

Thanks a lot!

For streaming, using your GPU will generally yield better results since GPUs have specific optimizations for that. The combo is slightly overkill; however, if your budget allows, stick with the 9800X3D. It’s just a bit faster than the 7800X3D, but you might hit more CPU bottlenecks depending on your setup.

Which Corsair model are you looking at? Most are great, but some like the CXm 2013 have had issues. The 9800X3D is indeed a powerful CPU and might be more than what most gamers need. If you're looking to save some bucks, you might consider the 7800X3D or 7500X3D, which are also great options. Depending on the games you play, you might not even notice a difference with those. Still, the 9800X3D is a good choice for streaming multitasking!

I’m leaning towards the Corsair RMe Series, 850W fully modular low noise PSU. Is 750W enough since I heard that's the minimum for my GPU?

Yes, 750W is sufficient, but having that extra headroom with 850W is safer, especially for streaming.

If you’re into streaming or productivity tasks, that setup is perfectly fine! The 9800X3D or even the 9850X3D are top of the line choices.
