Hey everyone! I'm from a developing country where only about 40% of businesses have their own website. I've been trying to reach out to local businesses, like restaurants and dental clinics, via WhatsApp for cold messaging. Surprisingly, most of them told me they don't see the need for a website since they handle everything through WhatsApp Business. Customers can add items to their cart via WhatsApp, and they just deliver the orders. I'm beginning to wonder if websites are still relevant for them. As a full-stack web developer, what can I offer to these small businesses that would actually add value? Thanks for your thoughts!

Many places like Brazil and parts of Africa actually rely heavily on WhatsApp for business. In fact, in some countries, using WhatsApp is quite normal, whereas in the U.S., it might not hold the same weight. It's fascinating how different cultures approach business!
Exactly! We can't generalize based just on one region.
Websites can enhance visibility on platforms like Google, and some clients might assume that without a website, you're not a serious business. At the very least, a basic site could serve as a digital brochure and help build a brand image. Just articulate the long-term value that having a website can provide, alongside their existing strategies.
That’s a great angle! I hadn't thought of it that way.
It's true that many small businesses view websites simply as an extra expense, since they can utilize platforms like WhatsApp and social media for free. For them, having a site primarily serves as a marketing tool, rather than an actual sales channel. They might not need a custom website if they’re happy with WhatsApp and other free platforms.
I totally agree! I've seen quite a few small businesses thriving without a website.
The culture plays a huge role in how businesses view marketing. In many Western countries, having a website is seen as essential. However, you are in a unique market where WhatsApp is widely used. Help them streamline their WhatsApp services and show them how this can coexist with a website for improved visibility.
I'd love to hear how you get clients! I’ve had trouble with small businesses following up after getting a quote.
I always appreciate your insights on this stuff. They're so helpful!
You can still create simple websites for them at little to no cost. I often build single-page sites that link to their WhatsApp, featuring opening hours and photos. These can be set up quickly and provide a minimal online presence which many businesses still appreciate to boost visibility.
Static sites are definitely the way to go; they can attract decent traffic and are often free to host!
What tools do you use for that? Are you going with something like Astro or Hugo?

I noticed that too—it's like a whole different world depending on where you are!
