Do Two M.2 Drives Affect SSD Speed?

Hey everyone! I'm upgrading my storage and I want to make sure I do it right. I have a B650 MSI Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard, and I currently have a 1TB SSD in the first slot, which is my boot drive. If I add another SSD in the second slot, will it slow down my system's speeds? I just want to confirm what I've read about this. Thanks!

Nope, it won't slow down your SSD! But it's important to check if your M.2 drives are installed in the right slots. Some slots on your motherboard can support higher transfer speeds than others, so be sure to check your motherboard's specs to make sure everything's running at peak performance.

Yeah, it's wild! When I first got my PC with an M.2, I thought there was a hard drive missing because it was so tiny compared to the old-school HDDs.

Just to clarify, an M.2 drive is a type of SSD, which stands for Solid State Drive. It's one of the latest storage formats, and it's quite compact. I remember being confused too when I first got into building PCs—it's wild to see how small these drives can get!

I also have three slots filled and haven’t noticed any slowdown at all. It's pretty smooth sailing with multiple M.2 drives, just make sure they're in the right slots.
