Emails Keep Being Forwarded—How Can I Stop This?

Hey everyone,

I need some help. A while back, I had a hacking incident, and after recovering my account and changing all my passwords, it seems like something's still off. Lately, I've noticed that all my emails are being forwarded to a mysterious email address that I don't recognize.

I checked my email settings to see if any unknown addresses were listed for forwarding, but I didn't find anything there. I've done quite a bit of searching around, but I just can't figure out how to stop this forwarding. Has anyone dealt with this kind of issue and knows what to do?

What email client are you using? The location of forwarding rules can vary. If your emails are forwarding, there's definitely a setting somewhere that needs to be turned off. Checking the rules should lead you to it.

The forwarding rule is completely off. I use Outlook.

Which email service are you using—Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.? Also, how do you access it, through a web browser or the Outlook app? Different platforms have different settings for these things.

I use Hotmail, and I access it through the Outlook app on both my laptop and phone.

You should definitely check for email rules. Sometimes, especially in Outlook or Exchange, there might be server-side rules set up that you're not seeing. It's likely that there's a rule forwarding your emails to the unknown address. Just double-check that setting, and you should be able to resolve it.

I looked at that too! Everything seems fine; the forwarding option is off, and when I switch it on, there are still no addresses listed.
