Hey everyone! I'm looking to improve my internet setup at home. Right now, my desktop is connected through a WiFi booster with an Ethernet cable, but the connection is pretty inconsistent, and the speeds can be really bad. I'm thinking about running an Ethernet cable from my router in the living room to my office across the house (about 30 feet away), and I'm trying to decide whether I should install an Ethernet wall socket and connect my computer that way or just run the cable directly to my computer. So, should I go the route of router -> cable -> wall socket -> cable -> computer, or is it better to just use a long cable from the router directly to the computer?

If you’re comfortable with installing an Ethernet wall jack, I’d say go for it! It’s way better than just drilling a hole and pulling a cable through.
Running wires straight out of the wall isn’t ideal. Using a proper electrical box with a plate and Ethernet port gives a much cleaner look and is how it should be done. It’s all about doing it right!
Definitely go for the wall socket! It keeps things tidier and if you ever change your layout, you won’t have any cables hanging out. It’s just a more polished look overall.
Absolutely! Plus, if the tab on an Ethernet connector breaks, you can easily just swap out the patch cable without any hassle.
Unless you work for an ISP, then just do it however you feel like!
