Ever Had a Linux Update Break Everything?

I've been using Raspberry OS on my Pi4 and set up KDE along with some applications. After not using it for a few days, I decided to restart and update it. Unfortunately, now Discover is completely broken, and when I run 'apt get update', it always times out. I tried using AI tools like Grok and ChatGPT for help, but didn't find a solution. I even searched online without success. This issue seemed to come from nowhere and now I'm unable to install anything at all. Eventually, I had to reinstall the entire OS to get it working again. Has anyone experienced similar issues with Linux updates?

Do you want to vent about this, or are you looking to dig into what happened? If you're keen on understanding the breakdown, there’s tons of resources out there. Exploring logs and troubleshooting could help you avoid this in the future!

There are logs available to help sort through this. You might want to check out '/var/log/apt/history.log' for clues about what went wrong. Understanding your network and DNS could also resolve the timeout issues you're encountering.

I've looked through logs for two days already! It's frustrating trying to find a specific error when things just break.

Have you considered that learning about the issue could really help? Linux can be tricky, but becoming familiar with its quirks will make things easier in the long run. Plus, digging into error messages and logs can provide insight; that’s where the real learning happens!

Exactly! Learning from mistakes is part of the journey with Linux. Engaging with the community can help too.

I get what you're saying! I've faced breaking issues on Linux too, but honestly, Windows isn't immune either. It's tough because not everyone wants to troubleshoot; they just want a reliable OS! There really isn't a perfect user-friendly option out there right now.

This sounds frustrating! While it's tough to say exactly what went wrong without more details, it doesn't sound typical for Linux behavior. Have you considered trying an immutable distro like Fedora Silverblue or OpenSUSE MicroOS? They create snapshots of your system that can be rolled back easily, preventing issues during runtime!

Totally agree! Immutable distros are way less likely to break. Some of them even have great support for Pi4, like OpenSUSE Aeon.
