Experiencing Full System Freezes Only in Online Games — Need Help Troubleshooting

I've been dealing with persistent hard freezes while playing online games like Counter-Strike 2 and Enshrouded. The system fully hangs—there's no blue screen or error message, and all peripherals shut off. This has been happening for about two weeks now, and it requires a manual restart. Oddly, it doesn't happen during single-player games or heavy workloads like video editing or stress tests. I've gone through a thorough troubleshooting process, including reinstalling Windows, updating BIOS and drivers, stress testing components, and altering BIOS settings, yet the issue still persists. The freezes always occur during online gameplay, and after a reboot, the Event Viewer shows a WHEA Logger Event ID 1, though there's nothing logged at the time of the crash. I'm at my wits' end and suspect it could be a hardware issue related to the CPU, motherboard, or RAM controller. Could anyone offer any advice or advanced diagnostic steps to identify the problem before I consider sending the system for hardware inspection?

The WHEA Logger Event ID 1 usually means the CPU requested a shutdown, so you might be onto something with a hardware fault. If you haven't already, try running a diagnostic tool to gather system info and logs, including WHEA events. It might help narrow down whether it's truly a hardware issue or something inside Windows that's causing these glitches.

I agree, you've definitely done a solid job of narrowing things down. The fact that stress tests pass makes a PSU failure less likely but doesn’t rule out CPU or motherboard faults. Those Intel 14th Gen chips have had some mixed reviews. I would lean towards the motherboard being the culprit. It’s definitely worth exploring if anyone has recommendations for better motherboard options.

It sounds like you've already done a ton of troubleshooting! I would lean towards the motherboard being the issue, especially with Gigabyte D3 boards having a reputation for instability and poor RAM support. Those copper traces can be a real bottleneck, causing issues that only pop up under specific conditions like gaming online. Might want to consider checking reviews or looking into more reliable motherboard models if that’s the case.
