Feeling Frustrated After Buying a PC from a Friend

I recently bought a gaming PC from a friend for $240, but I've hit a wall. I couldn't use it for a while due to a broken monitor, and now that I finally got everything set up, I realize it only connects via Ethernet. I asked him beforehand if it had Wi-Fi capability, and he said it did. Now, he's not responding to my texts, and I'm really frustrated. Should I just try to fix this myself?

It sounds like you might not be entirely out of luck. Wired connections are typically more reliable, but if you're looking for Wi-Fi, grabbing a USB wireless adapter could really solve your problem. You can get them for a decent price, and then you can get back to gaming without any hassles!

Might do that lol.

If you’re looking for a quick fix, you can easily buy a Wi-Fi dongle online for around $10. It’ll help you connect wirelessly without needing to dive into any heavy upgrades!

I’m looking at some now!

A lot of older motherboards don't come with built-in Wi-Fi. If yours doesn’t, you could check if there are antenna ports on the back. If it’s just an outdated setup, a PCI Wi-Fi card could also work. Definitely worth considering before going any further!

I was thinking about doing that which kinda upset about, but it’s nothing I can do but fix it.

Hey there! First things first, is the PC working otherwise? If it is, try downloading HWinfo to check your system specs. This will help us see if there’s any built-in Wi-Fi capability. Here’s the link: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/. Once you get that, sharing the motherboard info could help figure out your options.

I can try that!

First off, that friend doesn't sound like much of a friend. As for the PC, it's a bummer he misled you. While it might be older and lacking Wi-Fi, you can still fix it. I recommend visiting him, unannounced, to make sure he knows how this isn't cool and to address the situation directly.

Trust me I am. I’m just pissed that he lied to me and when I tried calling him about it just a few minutes ago, he didn’t answer and stopped responding to my texts.
