Feeling Lost in My Career Shift: How Can I Find My Direction?

Hey everyone, I'm reaching out because I'm really feeling stuck in my career journey. I'm currently unemployed and have been diving deep into learning for the past six weeks—169 hours to be exact! I've completed a Python course and even dabbled in more advanced topics like data science and cybersecurity. While I'm passionate about data science and love working with data, I'm struggling with feelings of self-doubt, especially regarding math. I worry about the tougher math concepts that are coming up, which leaves me anxious and unsure about my abilities. On top of all this, I've been tracking my learning progress, which is now feeling like additional pressure. I want to regain my focus and motivation without burning out further. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you manage to get back on track?

I totally get your struggle! Jumping between courses can lead to feeling lost. My suggestion would be to pick one area you're genuinely interested in and commit to it. Just like how palm trees grow tall while bushes stay small, focus on nurturing one path. Since you enjoy data, stick with that and see where it leads you, rather than spreading yourself too thin.

If you're looking to get into data science, you’re definitely going to need some math skills, particularly in statistics. If math intimidates you, consider if it's really a hate thing or maybe just a confidence issue. Spend some time learning it; a lot of the initial concepts are manageable. If you still feel overwhelmed, you could pivot to a path that requires coding but less math—like web development or maybe even creating a simple game. It might be liberating to focus on what you enjoy without the math stress.

Without previous experience, breaking into data science can be tough. But don't lose hope! There are roles like data analyst or developer that might be less competitive. Commit to one path and give it your all instead of juggling multiple things.
