Feeling Overwhelmed in Computer Science—Need Help Choosing a Path

I'm a computer science student entering my sophomore year, and I have to admit, I feel really lost. I consider myself a creative coder—I've even built a 500-line calculator with a tutorial and some unusual features. Despite that, I'm struggling to choose between cybersecurity, AI, and web development. I have this urge to learn everything, but it's just leaving me confused. I've tried researching online, but it seems like there are too many options and I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Feeling lost is totally normal, especially in a field as vast as tech! My advice is to dip your toes into a few different areas, like cybersecurity, AI, and web dev. Pay attention to which projects spark your interest the most; that’ll help guide your decision.

You really need to adjust your mindset. Trying to learn everything at once isn’t realistic. Pick one area and stick with it—depth is more important than breadth at this stage. Your studies should come first, so don’t go overboard with extra projects until you're more comfortable.

It's great to hear you're passionate about coding! But it can be a lot to take in. Consider exploring the job market—seeing what skills are in demand might help you narrow down your focus.

Thanks! I'll definitely check out the job market.

I know it's tempting to learn everything, but picking just one path could save you a lot of stress. If AI interests you, consider delving into a specific subdomain like generative AI. Spreading yourself too thin will only lead to burnout.
